Challenge: Every year corporations lose billions of dollars to fraud, and banks are no exception. Fraud comes in all sizes and shapes, both from external perpetrators and internal employees. The bank’s best defence in fraud prevention is a good offence, making sure employees are aware about fraud and equipping them with the tools they need to prevent and detect fraud. For SEB, the challenge was to make the content easily accessible to a larger target group. Previously, information regarding fraud prevention had been communicated verbally across the organization, now there was a need to make use of new, more effective methods.
The project: The overall purpose of the program was to increase the awareness among all SEB employees about the risks with fraud and information security, and increase their overall knowledge about fraud in order to prevent and identify fraudulent attempts. To help achieve this, SamSari developed a learning program containing three different parts. A thrilling metaphor-based eye-opener introduces the program, creating awareness among participants about the importance of fraud prevention. Three e-learning sections follow, containing both theory models equipping participants with knowledge about different types of fraud, the consequences and damages of fraud and wrongly handled IS and hard facts as well as examples and real-life stories from different countries and markets to create a relevance and connection to the theory. The final part of the program is based on a storytelling concept. It consists of a module containing interactive cases based on real-life scenarios, where the participants are activated and get the opportunity to take a position on different issues.
Result: The program was translated into seven languages, and rolled out in 22 countries during 2009. The response has been positive. Fraud prevention officers throughout the organization appreciate the availability of the program, and the effect it has when reaching so many people in the company. It is considered an excellent tool to keep up the awareness about fraud among SEB employees.
